Utilizing tiers in fantasy football provides several strategic advantages beyond simple rankings. Rankings are linear, but tiers group players of similar value together.
This helps you recognize when there's a big drop-off in talent, so you don't overreact to slight differences in rank. For example, suppose multiple wide receivers are left in a tier but only one player in the current running-back tier. In that case, you're more likely to take the running back before that tier is eliminated.
We'll cover every positional tier as the offseason moves on; today, we wind up with wide receivers.

Elite WR1
Elite skill combined with likely high-volume pass offenses. Barring injury, the #1 overall wide receiver will be one of these two.
Chase had nearly 500 yards and five scores in the two games against Baltimore, and even if you take those two out, he was the #1 wide receiver last year. We are watching a special connection between him and Joe Burrow that will go down as one of the best quarterback to wide receiver connections in NFL history.
Lamb was banged up last year and lost Dak Prescott to a season-ending injury, but he still managed to be a top 10 wide receiver. This year, he'll have the most dynamic running mate of his career in George Pickens, while playing in an offense that will likely have to lean pass-heavy by necessity.
Strong WR1
Take in that list of players in or approaching their peak years. The next generation of great receivers is here.
Jefferson was quiet (for him) for most of 2024, but finished strong and has produced through lots of quarterback transitions in Minnesota. There will be another one this year to J.J. McCarthy, and the offense will be more run-heavy with inexperience at the helm. Jefferson is a little overrated in drafts and probably shouldn't go ahead of CeeDee Lamb....

Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow is attempting to become only the seventh quarterback since the merger to lead the league in touchdown passes in consecutive seasons. He would join Terry Bradshaw (1981-82), Dan Marino (1984-86), Jim Everett (1988-89), Steve Young (1992-94), Brett Favre (1995-97) and Drew Brees (2008-09 and 2011-12).
Our view: Burrow has the talent to do that, and he's got one of the league's best group of pass-catching weapons around him. Add in the fact the Bengals defense should struggle, and that means the offense is going to have to put their foot on the gas. Burrow has a current ADP of QB4 and is going off the board in the third or fourth round in many drafts.

Los Angeles Rams WR Davante Adams said he has put in a lot of work with QB Matthew Stafford this offseason. 'Quite a bit. We got right to it. Had a really productive offseason,' Adams said. 'I've worked probably some of the hardest I've worked, just feeling really rejuvenated and ready to go win some games.'
Our view: Stafford and Adams should be a fine combination for the Rams. The defense should be paying a lot of attention to Puka Nacua, and Adams should be able to take advantage of that coverage. Adams has a current ADP of WR19, and in this offense he could outperform that draft position.

3. MIA: Darren Waller activated
Source: CardsWire - Howard Balzer
Miami Dolphins TE Darren Waller was activated from the Reserve/Retired list Wednesday, July 9.
Our view: Waller came out of retirement because he wanted to play for the Dolphins. He is now in a room with Pharaoh Brown, Jalin Conyers, and Julian Hill. Waller is clearly the best pass-catching option at the position for the Dolphins, and so long as QB Tua Tagovailoa is healthy, they will continue to have an explosive passing game. His current ADP is TE28, but expect that to rise during training camp and the preseason as Fantasy GMs should get more excited about his role as the season draws closer.

4. SF: Demarcus Robinson pleads no contest
Source: ESPN.com
San Francisco 49ers WR Demarcus Robinson pleaded no contest to misdemeanor DUI charge and was sentenced to three years' probation. He also was ordered to pay a $390 fine and to complete court-mandated programs, including a three-month alcohol education program, according to multiple media outlets that cited court records.
Our view: Now that the legal process has concluded, Robinson needs to wait and see if the NFL suspends him. 49ers GM John Lynch said the team knew that Robinson could draw a suspension for his DUI arrest when they signed him. Some reporters believe Robinson could be suspended early in the season. If that's the case, the 49ers (with Brandon Aiyuk recovering from his ACL injury) could be using Jauan Jennings and Ricky Pearsall quite a bit at the beginning of the season.

5. PHI: AJ Dillon's spot in question?
Source: PhillyVoice.com - Geoff Mosher
Philadelphia Eagles RB AJ Dillon's 'isn't even a sure-shot' to make the 53-man roster, according to Geoff Mosher of PhillyVoice.com.
Our view: No surprise here. The Eagles have Saquon Barkley atop the depth chart, and Will Shipley may be the primary backup. Shipley and Dillon will compete for that spot, but Dillon lacks the three-down ability the team may be looking for in that role. Dillon's best bet to a roster spot is to prove himself as a short-yardage and goal line option for the Eagles.

6. LAR: Blake Corum impressing
Source: TheRams.com - Wyatt Miller
Los Angeles Rams RB Blake Corum showed explosiveness in organized team activities, according to running backs coach Ron Gould. 'He's gotten his speed back, so his explosiveness has come back,' Gould said. 'We had a chance to just see that, and then his ability to come out of cuts, which is something that we saw in the junior year and part of his senior year.' Corum has displayed more explosive tendencies during training camp than he did last season.
Our view: Corum is in line to be the primary backup to Kyren Williams. He's going to have to compete with rookie Jarquez Hunter for that spot, and it sounds like the second-year pro is impressing this offseason. We'll watch this competition in training camp and the preseason. Even though Corum's rookie season was 'meh' (3.6 yards per carry will do that), we still like him in dynasty formats.

7. LAR: Jarquez Hunter to add speed element
Source: TheRams.com - Wyatt Miller
Los Angeles Rams fourth-round pick RB Jarquez Hunter was eighth in FBS last season with 42 explosive rushes. He had the second-highest explosive rush rate (10+ yards) among FBS backs with more than 150 carries last year.
Our view: Hunter was a stud running back for Auburn, and now he brings that speed and never-say-die attitude to the Rams. With his speed, Hunter led the SEC with 6.4 yards per carry in 2024. Hunter also had plenty of explosive plays, with 42 carries of 10 yards or more (sixth most in the FBS last year). The Rams traded up for Hunter in the fourth round, but as a rookie he'll have to carve out what could be a limited amount of playing time behind Kyren Williams and Blake Corum.

8. TEN: Kalel Mullings on track for camp
Source: TennesseeTitans.com - Jim Wyatt
Tennessee Titans RB Kalel Mullings (undisclosed) is expected to be a full participant when training camp starts despite missing some offseason work because of an undisclosed injury.
Our view: A converted linebacker at Michigan, Mullings was an absolute hammer playing running back for two seasons with the Wolverines. He brings that size and power to the NFL, and the rookie could be the best short-yardage and goal line option for the Titans. That means we could be looking at a three-headed RBBC with Tony Pollard and Tyjae Spears.

9. ATL: Nick Nash could struggle to make final roster
Source: AtlantaFalcons.com - Tori McElhaney
Atlanta Falcons WR Nick Nash could be on the outside looking in when final cuts are announced later this summer since the Falcons appear to be in 'a pretty good spot in regards to their receiver room,' according to Tori McElhaney of the team's website.
Our view: A converted quarterback, Nash was almost exclusively a slot receiver for San Jose State. The Falcons added him as a UDFA, and he's a long shot to make the 53-man roster. However, his size/nose for the end zone combination coupled with his high football intelligence means a spot on the practice squad could be in his future. In crazy deep dynasty formats, we'll monitor Nash's career.

10. TEN: Josh Whyle on the chopping block?
Source: TennesseeTitans.com - Jim Wyatt
Tennessee Titans TE Josh Whyle 'needs to step things up' during training camp if he wants to hold on to a roster spot, according to Jim Wyatt of TennesseeTitans.com.
Our view: Whyle is competing for the backup spot to Chig Okonkwo, and he's off the fantasy radar. The third-year pro will have to beat out talented rookie Gunnar Helm for the no.2 job. We like Helm in dynasty formats, and he's got some Pat Freiermuth to his game. Helm's size and ability to get open is going to give him more upside than Whyle, but the rookie will have to prove himself in training camp and the preseason.
